I have pulled my family tree information from my web site, after a concerned relative saw a TV show regarding identity thieves using genealogical information on the Internet to steal peoples' identies. I was careful with not supplying birthdays, middle names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. However, mother's maiden names were available (it would be pretty tough to make a decent family tree without showing women's grandmothers!).

I'm considering some options to make the information available again, including:

• Password-protecting the family tree, and giving relatives the password
• Concealing the first names of any living individuals (this is what the Mormons / Church of Latter Day Saints do in their public records) (e.g., instead of "Rob Bednark", my name would be "LIVING Bednark".
